Sesame Seed Cookies

If you like sesame seeds you will love these cookies, and if you are a coffee drinker they are the perfect cup-of-joe-treat.  Bloodhound loves this tiny little seed, and is extremely fond of the sesame cookie known as the benne wafer.  So when I saw this recipe I knew I had to make it for him.  They were a hit and I will continue to make them a holiday treat.  Plus sesame seeds are good for you as they are high in zinc, iron, vitamin B and E and calcium.  I think that justifies this Christmas treat!  Enjoy

Sesame Seed Cookies
From Aunt Anne

1 cup butter
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg, room temperature
2 teaspoons anise extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk, or as needed
1 cup sesame seeds

Cream butter and sugar until fluffy, add in egg and extract.  In another bowl mix together flour, baking powder, and salt.  Add this to the butter mixture.  Combine thoroughly and it will become fluffy.  Roll pinches of batter into walnut size balls, or a little smaller.  On lightly floured surface roll into sticks, dip in milk and then sesame seeds.  Place on cookie sheets and bake in 350F oven for 20 minutes.  Allow to cool on sheets for a few minutes, then transfer to cooling rack.
